Ms. Hugdahl's practice is concentrated in the field of employment law with particular emphasis on representing public and private employers and their representatives under Title VII, the ADA, ADEA and FMLA. She routinely counsels clients on employment matters relating to accommodations, complaints, investigations, discipline and termination.
Ms. Hugdahl has experience with all phases of the administrative process, handling matters before the EEOC, CCRD, and the Office of Adminstrative Courts. She enjoys practicing in Federal Court in a wide variety of cases involving claims of unlawful employment practices. Additionally, Ms. Hugdahl has done lecturing on various employment-related topics.
Beyond the employment context, Ms. Hugdahl also defends entities and individuals against allegations of various civil rights violations under the First, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendments. In addition she has defended a number of claims against entities and individuals in State Court under the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act. Recently her practice has expanded to the area of land use, including takings claims and annexation disputes.
Ms. Hugdahl has extensive experience in the arena of sexually oriented businesses within the context of defending constitutional challenges to both licensing and zoning ordinances. Ms. Hugdahl played a principle role in litigating City of Littleton v. Z. J. Gifts, 541 U.S. 774 (2004), before the United States District Court for the District of Colorado and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She was fortunate enough to have been part of the team who presented this case before the United States Supreme Court.
Ms. Hugdahl is honored to have represented clients from various governmental departments including accounting, police, engineering, roads and streets, water and sewer maintenance, human resources, educators, city and town managers, council and board members and recreational personnel, as well as business owners and entrepreneurs. It is also her privilege to work with city, town and county attorneys.
Ms. Hugdahl has also handled complex tort litigation in cases involving topics such as a participant in a wilderness experience who contracted Necrotizing Fasciitis, a variety of recreational injuries from skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and swimming, and alleged burns from a cosmetic peel.
Ms. Hugdahl, a Colorado native and received her undergraduate degree from Colorado State University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, with honors and distinction. Ms. Hugdahl received her legal education at American University, Washington College of Law, where she graduated in 1990. She joined Nathan Bremer Dumm & Myers, P.C. in 1990 and became a shareholder in 1994.
Ms. Hugdahl is admitted to practice in Colorado and before the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Hugdahl is a member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations.
